📜 Origin & History

Azurite Blue originates from traditional Chinese mineral pigments, primarily composed of azurite (copper carbonate), often found alongside malachite. In Tang Dynasty murals and Northern Song blue-green landscape paintings, azurite was a premier pigment for depicting layered mountains and golden-green landscapes. Wang Ximeng's A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains extensively uses this material.

Azurite was historically known in China as 'kongqing' (empty blue), as its color resembled the sky after rain. Ancient craftsmen valued its purity highly, subjecting it to crushing, washing, settling, and other refining processes, with the first extract being the most precious.

In Ming Dynasty cloisonné, azurite-blue enamel was extensively fired onto bronze bodies. Qing court attire frequently used azurite-blue silk for casual robes, as it embodied the nobility of blue while being more restrained and elegant than bright yellow.

In digital standards, CSS azurite blue is placed in the blue-green spectrum. It replicates the subtle beauty of mineral color shifts under light, combining the depth of blue with the vitality of green, commonly used in neo-Chinese design for digital presentation.
