📜 Origin & History
RAL 7021 Black Gray is a classic color code within the German industrial color standard system, first published in 1927. The RAL standard was initiated and established by the German Imperial Railway Company to unify color specifications for German industrial products, with Black Gray being applied to the chassis paint of locomotives and heavy machinery.
During World War II, Black Gray became the基准 (reference) color for German armored units. The dark gray base of Tiger and Panther tanks provided good concealment in shadows and forests; this functional color was extensively studied and adopted by the victorious Allied armies after the war.
In the 1970s, Black Gray moved from the military industry into the高端 (high-end) civilian product sector. Leica cameras pioneered the classic combination of a Black Gray body with a silver lens, perfectly merging an industrial feel with precision optical temperament, establishing the aesthetic standard for professional photography equipment.
In contemporary home design, Black Gray has been applied to injection-molded furniture by Italian brands like Kartell and Magis. Black Gray plastic chairs, softer than pure black, display subtle gray textures under light, injecting warmth and texture into mass-produced industrial products.
