📜 Origin & History
Clove Purple originates from the color of the flowers of the clove tree, a member of the olive family. In traditional Chinese culture, cloves are often associated with melancholy and longing. In the late Tang and Five Dynasties period, poet Li Jing wrote the famous line: 'The blue bird brings no word from beyond the clouds; lilac branches bear sorrow in the rain,' establishing this color's melancholic and romantic foundation.
During the Song and Yuan periods, Clove Purple became a common color for boudoir embroidery. Its delicate softness was perfect for expressing the grace of young women. On cosmetic cases of the time, Clove Purple was often paired with interlocking lotus motifs, symbolizing continuous lingering thoughts of love.
In the Qing Dynasty, dyeing technology matured. A light indigo dye combined with an alum mordant could produce a very stable Clove Purple cotton cloth. During the Republic of China era, this light purple indanthrene cloth was the standard uniform for female students, recording the youthful memories of a generation.
In modern home decoration and design, Clove Purple is seen as 'the dream closest to daylight'. Its low-saturation nature allows for large-scale use without irritating the eyes, possessing high spatial healing capacity and affinity.
