📜 Origin & History
RAL 9002 Grey White is an important member of the gray-white family in the RAL Classic color system. Since the system's inception in 1927, it has been one of the foundational color codes for gray tones in industrial paints.
Post-WWII European modernist architecture extensively used precast concrete components. 9002 Grey White happened to echo the natural tone of fair-faced concrete and was thus widely specified as the standard color for architectural fittings.
From the 1970s onwards, RAL 9002 was heavily applied in office equipment. From typewriters and photocopiers to early personal computers, grey-white became the era's memory color for office technology products.
In Nordic interior design, 9002 Grey White gradually replaced the warmer 9001 as the mainstream wall color. The cooler, more restrained grey-white tone better complemented the minimalist spatial aesthetic.
In recent years, with the popularity of industrial retro style, RAL 9002 has made a comeback as part of nostalgic office aesthetics. Many designer brands apply this grey-white to stationery and desktop accessory designs.
