Wisteria Purple

Wisteria Purple derives from the Chinese wisteria, or 'tengluo'. Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai wrote: 'Purple wisteria hangs on cloud-piercing trees, its flowering vines delight in the springtime sun.' In Chinese garden aesthetics, wisteria symbolizes longevity, prosperity, and graceful posture, often planted in front of literati study courtyards.

Since the Tang Dynasty, Wisteria Purple appeared in silk fabrics. Tang women favored wearing purple gauze shirts of this elegant, hazy color. During the Ming and Qing periods, Wisteria Purple was used more maturely in porcelain (like the purple spots on 'kidney bean red' glazes) and embroidery, expressing leisurely reclusive sentiments.

In Chinese literati painting, wisteria is often depicted with swallows and bees to express the feeling of spring. Modern masters like Qi Baishi excelled at painting wisteria. The rich variations of Wisteria Purple's intensity, from dark to light and wet to dry, vividly demonstrate the fusion of water, ink, and color.

In modern life, Wisteria Purple is widely used in wedding and romantic event settings. More rational than pink and lighter than deep purple, it symbolizes dreamy yet attainable happiness, making it a star color choice in gardening and interior decoration.
